I have a superpower. As a benefit of my job I can travel !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! standby on one of the largest airlines in the world. That means I can go almost anywhere for free or next to nothing. It is an amazing benefit. We have used it to go all over the world. There is a “kriptonite” to this power. There need to be empty seats on the flight for it to work. If the flight is full of paying passengers you simply are not going. Sometimes, like today, there are open seats, but other revenue sources take your place. Today we didn’t get on a flight from Portland to Tokyo because the flight was cargo optimized. They will limit the amount of seats that can be filled to haul cargo. We knew going in this was a risk, but took the chance anyway. We are working on plan B to get over to Japan for a few days to hit Tokyo Disney. We are headed to another gateway city to try again tomorrow.
Our family is used to it. We accept it. You have to have the right temperament to get the most out of it. You have to be creative to make it work, but it is worth it. So, do you have a superpower? If you have questions about nonrev travel let me know and I will try and answer them.

Do you have to be a flight attendant/pilot to get on this airplane train or can you be at any level in the org?

My superpower is to eventually die from working too many jobs.
...well I didn’t say it was a good superpower.

All employees get it. Who gets on when depends on the airline. At mine it is based on seniority. It doesn't matter your work group,

This was full about 3 1/2 hours ago. My super power is kind of a bad thing.
In all seriousness though, I am a super calm person, I can deal with alot of bullshit and remain calm and get through it and not freak out.

Well, shit. After 3/4 a bottle of Jameson, I’m pretty calm too. Usually because I’d be passed out on my lawn. I really don’t have a super-power, unless you count remembering stupid Star Trek gaming minutia from 25+ years ago.

That good be it, even sober I am pretty calm.
Speaking of passing out in the yard, I always feel bad when I drink with my neighbor. His tolerance is super low and mine isn’t, our drinking doesn’t line up well. Last Halloween we decided to get drunk and pass out candy with our wife’s. He ended up puking on the hood of his Jeep and passed out in a lawn chair in the driveway.

I can’t non-rev with a family of four with the carrier I contract with so I have to buy tickets...except for me, I can grab the jumpseat and save a few hundred bucks.

I think I know what airline you work for because my friend works for the same one. I’ve flown with him on buddy passes, and it definitely creates a pull to gun for a position in the same office.

My buddy is a pilot and said as long as you plan properly, you can plan on getting onto a flight within a certain bracket of time (for example, I know I can make one of these 3 flights between 1 and 4pm). Your experience similar?

My mechanical super powers :D
I can fix pretty much anything that has an engine, motor, and moves for family and friends. So they dont have to pay such high prices at the shop.
Except major electrical. hate that stuff, and need special computers to diagnose.

Most of the time. Problem we have is there is only one flight to Tokyo from each city and they all leave within an hour of each other.

We can bring the whole damn family. Easier as a solo or pair than four though.

Useless number memory (i.e. 5th grade locker number and combo)

My girlfriend gets something like this as one of her best friends is an air hostess for Virgin.
The scary bit is that there might be seats out there but not necessarily on the way back, and there's way to know for sure ahead of time. She's nearly got stuck in Cancun at one point...

That is the nature of the beast. I’ve been stuck a few times. Youngest creative to get home.
One of her friends is an air hostess for Virgin, huh?

Do you have tattoos? Like visible ones?
Could they ever be claimed as visible?
Tokyo Disney is tattoo free. If someone claims they saw a tattoo youll be asked to buy a shirt or leave.
Also, be prepared to wait to get a picture with any of the cartoons like Mickey walking around.
I lived in Japan for almost 3 years and went there once. It was ok, but Japans version of the tower of terror was like a fast jerky elevator.

Make sure you go to a grocery store or something.
You gotta find a Chu-hi. Ones lemon or grapefruit. Its like 8% alcohol in a can for like 2 bucks. I miss me some of them.

We always hit the stores. It is cool to see what the locals shop for. Lemon alcohol goodness on the cheap? I'm in.

Also dont be afraid to try the food at 711. They serve meals there and theyll heat them up. Just make sure it appears fine before you buy.
Dont want to end up with squid or octupus.
Also black black gum( thats its name) is pretty good. The cigarettes arent as strong as American ones. You can easily catch a good buzz off the Chu-hi ( pronounced chew-high). I loved the grapefruit one. The cans show thw flavor. Lemon and grapefruit are the most common.
If you see a place called CoCo Curry. Its amazing. Its curry. They do level 1 to 10 on spicy. 10 being punishment and 1 being nothing.
Anything less than 10 bucks is a coin in japan.
Whwn you swipe your card, itll use whatever day is processes yen rate to charge you. So it could be slightly cheaper or slightly expensive depending on the yen rate.
Alot of the country is in english even though some dont speak it. I could never figure that out. Why is your car in english whrn you dont speak it.

Thanks for the tips. This is my 4th trip over. 711 there is a life saver. Only place I've found that has ATMs that reliably take US cards.
